She suppressed her needs, wants, expectations and values in order to please others.

Her hope was to avoid conflict, criticism and disappointment.  But the more she tried to please others, the dimmer her inner voice became.

She eventually lost herself. She became well aware that she couldn’t be a people pleaser and have healthy self-esteem. It was one or the other. She had to choose.

So she adopted the radical belief that her ideas, thoughts and feelings mattered too.  Her needs were hers to meet. It caused much conflict, but it no longer mattered.

Carrie, we follow each other on Twitter. I have enjoyed your tweets but today, it seems, sparked memories for me. Thank you. It reminded me of where I once was and where I am now. I discovered in my own introspections that my ‘depression’ was a learned behavior and not a real depression at all.
