What Can You Control?

Do you feel trapped by circumstances beyond your control?

Life has a tendency to throw us disastrous situations that we never could have anticipated coming into our lives, yet here we are.

Maybe it’s a lost job, or financial strain, a divorce, a death or a sick child.

These are not the kinds of things we dream of when we are young. A little girl doesn’t grow up dreaming about divorcing her husband by age 35 or her child being diagnosed with cancer. A young man doesn’t envision losing his job and being in a position where he can no longer contribute financially to his family.

This isn’t the life we wanted.

I know you may be hurting. I know you might be tired. I know you might feel scared and defeated. Adjusting to new circumstances while the world is dramatically changing around us, can cause a lot of fear and uncertainty. While the details of our lives are all different, the feelings we share are all the same.

I need to tell you: You are not alone. Now is NOT the time to surrender and quit. Now isn’t the time to wave the white flag.

You have exactly enough courage and strength within you to keep going. It is possible that tomorrow can be a new day, full of endless opportunities to keep writing your story. Whatever difficult circumstances our life holds at the moment, it won’t last forever.

If you are struggling with recent events and finding yourself unable to cope, please reach out for help from a therapist. You don’t have to do this alone. Many therapists are now offering therapy virtually, so you don’t have to put you or your loved ones at risk or violate shelter in place orders.

Wishing your all the best during an unprecedent time.
