Are You Worth an Hour of Your Time?

In the chaos of everyday life, making time for ourselves is often an afterthought.

While juggling work, family, friends, to-do lists and anything else life can throw at us, the first thing we neglect and abandon is often self-care.

Many of us would love an hour to ourselves each day, but have absolutely no idea how to take it. In order to take that hour, it requires you to say no to something else.

If you say yes to yourself, you must say no to something or someone else and that can make you feel guilty. We think it’s selfish to take time for ourselves or we’re afraid someone will be mad or disappointed with us if we do.

Ask yourself:

Is it better to show up feeling overwhelmed, resentful and exhausted? Or is it better to be honest with people and ask for what you need?

If you want that hour, you’ll have to claim it and prioritize it. Ultimately, it’s up to you to take ownership of what you end up doing with your day. If you don’t, it’s highly unlikely that someone else will.

Do not let others determine the quality of your life. You owe yourself one hour a day of self-care. It can include reading, writing, relaxing, exercise, meditation, painting, listening to music or simply nothing at all. But know that you owe it to yourself.

One hour or 1/24th of your day. That’s less than 5%. It matters. You matter.

Once you claim your time, you can come back to your responsibilities with greater focus, commitment and enjoyment.

Giving you permission,

Carrie
